Usha Vance

Usha Vance is an American lawyer, the first Asian American, the first Indian American, the first Telugu, and the first Hindu to hold the position.

Early life:

Her father, Radhakrishna  Chilukuri, is a mechanical engineer, and her mother, Lakshmi Chilkuri, is a molecular biologist. She graduated from Mt. camel High School in 2003 and subsequestly attended yale University, graduating summa cum laude in 2007 with a history degree. After yale, she taught English and American history as a yale-china Teaching fellow in china.

Personal Life:

Usha Vence, married to JD Vance, was born in San Diego County, California, to Telugu Indian immigrant parents. She is mother of three children. The Vances reside in Cincinnati, Ohio. Usha has been an advisor to her husband and often travels with him to campaign events, sometime appearing on stage with him.

Career:

Vance served as a law clerk for Judge Amul Thapar of the District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky from 2013 to 2014, Judge Brett Kavanaugh on the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit from 2014 to 2015, and Chief Justice John Roberts from 2017 to 2018.

Hobbies:

Usha Vance’s hobbies and interests include playing the flute, reading, and volunteering, She was known for her involvement in school activities like the marching band and for being a “bookworm”. At yale, she volunteered in local school, led a girl Scouts Troop, and was editor-in –chief of a publication.
